Another great reason to live in Halton Region: the least congested corridors of any regional municipality in the GTA. This was one of the findings in the recently published 2014 Transportation Services Progress Report.
The Report also outlines a commitment of Regional Council to invest $1 billion into the region’s transportation infrastructure.
“Halton Region is committed to delivering high-quality infrastructure, including a comprehensive transportation system,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “On average, we allocate $120 million annually towards ongoing or new transportation construction projects and this report shows how this continuous investment is paying off in our community.”
Progress has been shown in reducing reliance on single occupancy vehicles due to work by programs developed by the Regional Road Network and participation in Smart Commute Halton, which is part of the wider Metrolinx initiative to reduce gridlock. This is achieved through carpooling, public transit, biking, and walking.
